先日ワクチン二回目を接種した帰りに、久しぶりの外出だったので病院と床屋の用事を済ませた後、図書館に寄りました。
図書館ではserendipityな出会いで図書館お勧めの本を借りることがあるのでが、今回は洋書が置いてあったのでふと借りてみました。
図書館を後にするために外に出ました。図書館の玄関外のベンチでは多くの人が休憩しています。
時間はまだ午前11時。お昼に行こうと思っていた店はまだ開いていないな、ここで時間つぶしに本を読んでみるとするか。
と、読み始めたのです。
私と洋書の相性はこれまで悪く、読み切った洋書は数えるほどなので、30分ほどの時間つぶしです。
ところで、このベンチは涼しい。たまに図書館への人の出入りのせいで、自動ドアが開くと、館内の冷気がぶわっと押し寄せてきてひんやり。なるほど、それで多くの人がここで休憩しているのか。
さて、この本、読める！
女性が主人公の小説で、まだ序盤で日常がつらつらと描かれているだけだが、読める。
以前、洋書を読んだ時とは明らかに違うこの感じ。
久しぶりに会った親戚の子が大きくなったのを感じるあの感じ。
もちろんわからない単語はあるが、そこは飛ばし読みで。
読み飛ばしても読み進められるこの未体験ゾーン。
これがブレークスルーか。ついに、きたか。
この夏休みの課題図書にするかな。
