来年度後半のNHK朝ドラのテーマがNHKラジオ英語講座だそうです。タイトルは『カムカムエヴリバディ』。

ラジオ講座と共に歩んだ3世代親子が描かれるようです。

ついに来ましたね。ラジオ講座。来年はラジオ講座が大人気になることでしょう。

さて、私がプロデューサーだったら現役のラジオ英語講師にちょい役で出演していただくのですが。そうすると、リスナーは歓喜!することでしょう。


★irrelevant, 重要でない、無意味な、役に立たない

It's simply irrelevant in the 21st-century job market.

★bring something to the table, ...を提供する、...を持ってくる

I've been thinking about what skill sets job applicants need to bring to the table these days.

★be on one's toes, 気をつけている、用心している

You've got to be on your toes and stay ahead of the curve if you want to succeed.

★shake things up, 現状をゆさぶる[再編成する]

Getting back to how technology is shaking things up, more companies are automating or outsourcing many routine tasks.

Coronavirus shook our lives up completely.


★immune to, ...に対して免疫がある

I suppose not even Japan is immune to the forces of changes we're talking about.

今月は2020年6月のアンコール放送のため、本レッスンは昨年と同じくLesson 5となります(Lesson 7ではなくて)。


今回ピックアップした語彙、be on one's guard against でググると、電話詐欺への警告のサイトがいくつか見つかります。

その中の一つ、スコットランド警察のWeb siteの記事を紹介します。

銀行から電話があり、あなたの口座が危険にさらされているので、指定する別の安全な口座に資金を移動するよういわれるという電話詐欺への注意喚起の記事です。

対応策も書かれれありますので、お互い、気を付けましょう。


★pesky, しつこい、くどい、迷惑な

It's getting so pesky I'm afraid to answer the phone.

I bought a mosquito net to avoid pesky mosquitos.


★What's behind...? 何が...の理由なのか?

What's behind the increase in robocalls?

It's been very hot these days. What's behind that?


★dubious, 不審な、怪しい

She's much happier now that she's not running to the phone every five minutes just to hear some dubious pitch from a telemarketer.

I got an email that made a dubious pitch of a language learning class.


★be on one's guard against, ...に気を付けている、...に用心している

It's an ongoing problem, even though the police and the media do their best to warn people to be on their guard against this kind of con.

We need to be on our guard against three Cs. (three Cs:3密)
 


★get wise to, ...に気づく、...に勘づく

Luckily my friend's grandmother got wise to his con, and just hung up.

I finally got wise to the importance of repetition in memorizing vocabulary.


暑さ対策でエアコンをつけながらも、窓を開けて換気もしなければならなそうなこの夏、なかなか厳しい夏になりそうです。

先日、英検協会から賞状が届きました。

まさかの奨励賞を頂きました。英検のサイトによると、
「過去10年間で1級を3回以上合格した方の中から、英検CSEスコアが上位の方に贈られます。」とあります。

私はここ10年では2018年から6回受けて5回合格しています。

いつかは奨励賞をという思いでいましたが、意外に早く頂くことができました。

3回以上合格しようとする英検マニアはそうそういないということでしょう。

これからもまずは10回合格、そして夢のCSE3000点を目指していきます。

そのためにはビジ英の日々の勉強がベースになることは間違いありません。

皆さんも一緒に英検1級を目指しましょう。持っている人は継続学習で奨励賞をめざしましょう。

★windchill factor, 風速冷却指数

I'm familiar with the windchill factor in weather forecasts during the winter.

カルフォルニアに住んでいる時は、聞いたことがありませんでした。windchill factor。ビニエットの舞台はニューヨークでしたね。

スープをふうふう吹いて冷ますがwindchill factorなんですね。


★tough sell, 売り込みが難しいもの、売りにくいもの

Do you think we could make umbrellas fashionable again? - That's a tough sell.

★serve as an impetus to, ...するための推進力として働く

Increasing concerns about skin cancer might serve as an impetus to reintroduce the sun umbrella into American culture.

Working with international workers serves as an impetus for me to study English.


★blame a death on, 死因を...のせいにする

It's also hard to directly blame deaths on heat stroke.

I want to blame my failure of the test on noises outside the room. 


★spray A with B, AをBに吹きかける

I would also advise spraying yourself with water and sitting in front of a fan.

The man sprayed the crowd with the bullets.
