ビジ英との出会い
今から30年前のことです。当時私は大学生。4年生になると研究室に配属されました。
ある先輩が昼休みに、イヤホンを耳に何やらブツブツ言っているのです。
その先輩は、やさしいビジネス英語を音読していたのでした。これが私とビジ英との出会いです。
私も自然とやさビジで英語の勉強を始めていました。
それ以来、英語の勉強と言えばやさビジ（そしてビジ英）。
私の英語力はビジ英でできている、といっても過言ではありません。
4月から実践ビジネス英語の放送はないのですか？ まだ想像がつきません。
閑話休題、この度、杉田先生はＮＨＫ放送文化賞を受賞されました。
これまでの日本ビジネス英語界への偉大なる貢献からすれば納得の受賞です。

★be deluged with, ...が殺到する
Authorities across the country have been deluged with complaints about scammers like that.
delugeの動詞は通常受身形で使われます。
私の例文です。
The teacher was deluged with thank you message of listeners.
★credulous, 信じやすい、だまされやすい
パス単 1101 credulity だまされやすいこと
They've cheated credulous seniors out of millions of dollars during the pandemic.
私の例文です。
I am credulous of what people say.
★more than worth one's [someone's] while, （人）にとってこの上なく価値[やりがい]がある
I kept telling them it would be more than worth their while to take an introductory computer course and learn some basic skills.
whileは名詞で「時間」という意味だったのですね。
for a whileとか言いますしね。
worth my whileで、私の時間に値する＝価値のある ということのようです。
私の例文です。
The radio program was worth my while.
★inadvisable, 勧められない、賢明でない
We need to create virtual spaces on the internet that can sustain our sense of community and togetherness while it's still inadvisable to physically meet.
私の例文です。
It is inadvisable to go to such a place.
★democratize, 民主化する、大衆化する
The pandemic has underlined the need to democratize the internet and eliminate the digital divide.
democratize the internet で、インターネットをすべての人に行きわたらせる、つまり「大衆化する」ということでしょう。
私の例文です。
The pandemic democratized online meetings.
