however possibleという表現が(5)の1つ目のAlvarezの2行目に出てきます。このhoweverは一体、、、ということで調べました。
オックスフォード新英英辞典によると、
[with adj. or adv.] to whatever
用例
He was hesitant to take the risk, however small.
がありました。
本来はhow everと離して表記されるべきのようですがhoweverでもよいようです。
ロングマン現代英英辞典では、no matther howと同じとありました。
つまり、however possibleは、どのような可能な方法であっても、という意味になるようです。
