★call it a day, 終わりにする

Not everyone likes the idea of calling it a day for good.

私の例文です。

I have been studying 8 hours today. I'll call it a day.


★demanding, きつい、過酷な

It's less demanding and lets them have more leisure time.

私の例文です。

The homework of Mr. McMillan is demanding.


★check in on, ...の具合を見る、...を確認する、...の様子をうかがう

That makes it possible to check in on old folks and make sure they're doing OK.

私の例文です。

I checked in on the new restaurants in this neighborhood.



★put someone to shame,(人)に恥をかかせる、(人)を見劣りさせる

He really puts me to shame when it comes to staying intellectually active.

His hard work puts me to shame.
