英語のジョークがたくさん掲載されています。一見何のことかわからないが、実は本当の言い方をもじっているという、教養がないと理解できない類のものです。
教養としての英語、というタイトルがぴったりだと思いました。
先週はアメリカに出張でした。サンフランシスコ空港のイミグレーションで3時間も待たされるというAirport Kindnessを味わいました。
訪問先の新築のオフィスビルで驚いたのはエレベータです。エレベータホールで目的の階をボタンで指定します。すると乗るべきエレベータが指示されるというものです。エレベータのかごの中には開くと閉じるのみで、階のボタンはないのです。
エレベータ混雑を解消するという、これも一つのCorporate Kindnessです。
