米国赴任137週目が終了。
先日、社内の会議で上司が部下に Give me elevator pitch. と言いました。時間がないので簡単に説明せよ、ということなのですが、赴任以来初めて聞いたので、おぉ、elevator pitch 出た！と密かに思いました。でもここはエレベータではなく会議室だけど？
私は、elevator pitch はエレベータの中で行われるものと思い込んでいましたが、今回のビニエットでも説明のあったようにそうではなくて、一分以下の短いセールスプレゼンテーションということです。勉強になりました。

最近、会社のジムのパーソナルトレーニングを受け始めました。
最初に身体の状況をチェックされました。トレーナーから Your calf is stiff. と言われました。stiff ではなくて tight だったかも、また、calves are だったかもしれません。要は、ふくらはぎが固いね、ということです。
そこでトレーナーが紹介したのは筋肉の固さをほぐすためにフォームローラーというフォーム素材の円柱を使って、ふくらはぎを自分でマッサージするというメニュー。フォームローラーの上にふくらはぎをのせて転がし、痛いポイント（tender spot）を探し、一分間押さえつけます。
同様に背中の筋肉（Lats）、胸の筋肉（Pecs）ふくらはぎの側面の筋肉（Peroneals）の tender spot を foam roller で押さえつけます。
このフォームローリングの他に、ストレッチ、および筋力強度アップからなるパーソナルトレーニングメニューができあがりました。
全体で1時間くらいかかり、これを最低週3回やるということですが週2回がせいぜいですね。
家でもフォームローラーをやりたくなったのでネット通販で購入し、ゴロゴロとやっています。
3週間ほどやったら効果が現れてきました。以前は朝起きたときに寝たまま伸びをすると、こむら返りをよく起こしていたのですが、それが一切なくなりました。フォームローラーすばらしい！！

The Elevator Pitch (3)の最後に、He'd engage in the usual chitchat with the person sitting beside him.とあります。
engage in conversation で、have a conversation なのですね。engageはなかなか難しいです。
