米国赴任112週目が終了。
最近、子供向け伝記を読んでいます。英語の感覚をつけるにはreadingを重視したいという趣旨です。
アメリカ人の伝記が多いですが、世界の歴史との関連も垣間見えて興味深いです。
この伝記本ですが、異なる出版社から似たような内容のシリーズ本が出ており、一つは「Who is (was) 誰それ」シリーズ。
今、手元にあるのは、Who was Loura Ingalls Wilder? 大草原の小さな家のモデルの人でしょうね。実話だったのですね。
もう一つのシリーズは「I am 誰それ」シリーズ。今、手元にあるのは、I am George Lucas。
最近、読み終えたばかりの本が、 Who was Jesus? そう、イエスキリストの伝記です。キリスト教のことは何にも知りませんので、勉強になりました。
キリストが起こした奇跡についても書かれていますが、それらは全てaccording to the Gospel of Markなどと、福音書にはこう書かれてあるという構成になっています。Gospelには福音書という意味もあるのですね。音楽のことだと思っていました。
先週、イスラエルにある「パンと魚の奇跡の教会」が何者かに火災にあったというニュースがありました。この奇跡もこの伝記で触れられていたので、このニュースを身近に感じました。
多読向け教材には伝記が私には合っているようだ、という話でした。

ここで紹介されている記事では、全米のupward moblityを図式化してあります。最貧層に生まれた子供が大人になってトップ層になる割合が一番高いのはSan Joseだそうです。私が今、住んでいる地域ですね。IT関係で儲かっているのでしょうね。逆に南部の都市は、その割合が低いという結果になっています。
