米国赴任108週目が終了。
こちらカルフォルニアでは、生ゴミとリサイクルゴミの収集は、各家庭の前の道路にそれぞれのゴミ箱（規格があるようで、だいたい同じ大きさ）が朝に置かれ、収集車が自動アームでそのゴミ箱をウイーンと持ち上げ、ゴミだけを取り込んでいくというシステムです。これは一戸建てにお住いの場合で、アパートの場合はアパート内の収集場所に置くだけなのでラクです。
粗大ごみの収集現場を先日初めて見かけました。各家庭の前に粗大ごみ（マットレス、家具、伐採した枝など）が、うず高く積まれており、それをブルドーザーがすくい上げ、トレーラー級の収集車に入れていくという流れです。なんとも大胆な。道路を封鎖してこの作業は行われていました。
職場にはとても多くのインド人がおり、さまざまな発音のため日々苦労しています。職場の日本人と、インド人の英語の発音もさまざまな種類があるという話になりました。彼によると４種類に分けられるとのこと。
インドにはさまざまな言語があるので、どこの出身かにより英語のなまりも変わってくるのでしょうか。
文章の区切りをつけずに、かつモノトーンで話す人がいるのですが、そんな彼の英語も立派に通用していますし、そんな彼が書く英語は完璧なのです。
