日本のカレーを食べたくて、おいしいと聞いた店に行ってみました。サンフランシスコに本店があり、ロスアルトスに2号店のあるMuracci'sという店は満員でした。
チキンカツカレーを玄米で頼んだのですが、玄米はカレーに合わない気がしました。カレー自体とチキンカツのお味はおいしかったです。
隣のテーブルが(おそらく)インド人の6人組でした。インド人が日本のカレーを食べると、どう感じるのか興味があったので横目で観察しました。
やはりベジタブルカレーやオムレツカレーなど肉の入っていないメニューを頼んでおり、6人中4人はなんと箸を使ってカレーを食べていました。残りの2人はなぜかフォーク。
箸は使わなくていいんですよ、とおせっかいはしませんでしたが、 カレーを日本料理と見なしての敬意の現れでしょう。逆に言うとカレーをカレーとは見ていなかった、とも言えます。
車で20分ほどの距離ですが、また来てみたい、と思いました。
