5月27日はMemorial Day（戦没将兵追悼記念日）の休日のため3連休になります。これは貴重というわけで、昨年購入したテントを車に積み込み、キャンプに出発しました。しかし、予約で一杯ということが途中でわかり、日帰りハイクに変更です。アメリカ人のアウトドア人気を侮っていました。
向かった先は、ベイエリアから南に2時間の所にあるPinnacles National Park。最近National ForestからNation Parkに昇格しました。
National Forestは国定公園、National Parkは国立公園と考えればよいでしょう。
最初は1,2時間くらいのhikeを考えていたのですが、結局道に迷ったこともあり5時間のhikeとなりました。Pinnaclesはその名の通り、むき出しの尖った岩が印象的な風景を見せてくれます。

今回はちゃんとしたトレイルなのでそんなことはないのですが、簡単なトレイルだとペットボトルのみを手に歩いている人をよく見かけます。
日本だと頂上でインスタントラーメンなどを作って食べるのがハイキングの醍醐味なのですが、そういうことはこちらではありません。ハイキングすらもカジュアルなのです。
