実践ビジネス英語 2014/3 Lesson 23 Separated by a Common Language 1,2,3 ★ gotten

米国赴任46週目が終了。

gottenはイギリスではfall out of useだがアメリカでは perfectly kosherであるとビニエット(3)に出てきますが、私がこちらに来て以来、gottenは聞いたことがないですね。単に聞き取れていないだけかもしれませんが。

こちらの先生に聞いたところ、頻繁に使われると言うことはなく、時に若い人は使わない、gotで代用してよいとのことでした。

あと、(1)で出てきたrealtorと書かれた建物はよく見かけます。何のことかわからなかったのですが、不動産屋だったのですね。

あと、be willing toは、喜んで〜する、ではなく、いやいや〜する、です。

That word fell out of use in Britain some time ago.

One expression that I found very strange is "sick," when it's used to show approval of something.

★realtor, (米)不動産会社、不動産仲介人

But as a Canuck, it's sometimes difficult to tell.
