米国赴任47週目が終了。

ここサンフランシスコのベイエリアは雨期も終わったようです。昼間は夏の雰囲気ですが、朝晩は冷え込みます。

(4)で"brill"はbrilliantの略という話を聞いて、以前タイのチェンマイで少数民族の村を訪ねるトレッキングツアーに参加した際に、宿泊所の簡易なシャワーから出てきた女性が "Brilliant!" と叫んでいたのを思い出しました。

あの人はイギリス人だったのですね。brilliantという言葉を聞いたのはあのときと今回のビニエットだけです。

(5)で"takeaway" (教訓)という言葉がbuzzwordで流行っているという話がありますが、確かにこれに関してはこちらに来てからよく聞きます。何かのプレゼンのまとめとしてtakeawayという言葉が使われているようです。

他の言葉、decisioning, sloutionize, planful, performant, least worst option, Thanks a bunch, learningsについてはこちらでも聞いたことがありません。

P31のListening Challengeは中国が24.1%なのに、正解ですら、円グラフ上での24.1%にはなっていません。混乱しましたが、トップ5のみをグラフにしたのでそういうことになるのですね。実際に円グラフを書いてみましたら、そうなりました ↓ 。

Listening Challengeのグラフの問題は簡単なことが多い中、かなりの高レベルであった、といえるでしょう。

How about American "officespeak"?

Americans often come up with neologism that have little or no reason for existing.

"performant" for successful or effective

Have you heard any presenter talk about the "least worst option"? That phrase seems to have become popular too.
