その１
先日購入した眼鏡を受け取りました。会社のデスクでかけてみるとパソコンの文字がぼやけて見えない。。。。度が合っていないので店にクレームを入れに行きました。なぜこんなことになったのでしょう。
検眼をした医者も出てきてカルテを確認すると、私は reading用の眼鏡を欲しいと言ったというのです。パソコン用の眼鏡はまた別だと。
確かに私は検眼の際にreading用といいましたが、それは運転用の眼鏡への対比として言ったにすぎず、読書用という意味ではありませんでした。英語力＆コミュニケーション力のなさがこんなところで露呈してしまいました。
眼鏡をアメリカで作る際に、いやな予感はしていたのです。医者との英語でのコミュニケーションは難しいというではありませんか。眼鏡を作る際も微妙なニュアンスを伝える必要があるので、正しく作れるかは不安でした。そして、その不安は的中したのです。

眼鏡は作り直しになりましたが、私の金銭追加負担はなしです。さすがリターン制度が整っているアメリカです。

日曜日にサンノゼ ダウンタウンのESLのmeetupの勉強会に参加しました。車を駐めるところが見つからずに、あるショッピングセンターの駐車場に駐めておきました。1時間以上の駐車はレッカー移動、という張り紙がありましたが、まあ今日は日曜だしいいだろうと思っていました。すこし不安はあったのですが。
meetupから2時間後に戻ったところ車は無事でした。気をよくした私は近くのチャイニーズで夕食を取り、スーパーで買い物をしました。戻ると車がありません。見事にレッカー移動されていたのでした。罰金が高額だったのでへこみました。

Egg Nogという季節ものの酒を試しに買いました。牛乳。卵、ブランデーなどが入った甘ったるい酒です。あと、牛乳と間違えてこれまたEgg Nog（アルコール抜き）を買ってしまいました。パッケージが似ている！ シリアルに注いだ後に気づいたのですが、とても牛乳の代わりになる代物ではありません。どう処理したものか。。
