最近、ドラマ「フレンズ」のDVDを見ております。日本から持ってきたDVDがありまして、こちらの複数の英語の先生からリスニングにはドラマがよいと聞きましたので、本腰を入れてみようかなと。
シーズン１のエピソード１を繰り返し見る方法をとっており、かなり飽きてきたのでそろそろエピソード２に移ろうかと思っているところです。朝起きたらまずフレンズを見るという生活です。
DVDのサブタイトルは便利ですが、台詞がすべてサブタイトルになっているわけではなく、一部省略されています。そこでネットからスクリプトを入手して確認しております。
フレンズは英語学習用によく使われているらしく、表現を解説するサイトがいくつか見つかり、便利です。特にエピソード１については解説サイトが多いです。（それでもYou're a shoe.のくだりは未解決です。おわかりの方がいらっしゃればご教示ください）

ひとつは、ロスの台詞 "Here is the thing." （問題はここだよ。）です。これ、最近、会社の会議で誰かが言っていました。ぉおっ、と思いましたね。
もう一つは、レイチェルの台詞 "how much Barry looks like Mr. Potato Head" （バリーがどれだけMr. Potato Headに似ているか）です。Mr. Potato Headとは子供のおもちゃで福笑いのような人形だそうです。
こんな豆知識が役に立ったのは、バイリンガルニュースというPodcastで、鼻をおでこで培養した男のニュースの時に マイケルがMr. Potato Headのようだ、と言っていたのを聞いたときです。鼻が変な位置にあるので、福笑いのようだという意味ですね。
