昨日は表参道のビジ英勉強会に行ってきました。熱心なリスナーとの勉強には毎回刺激を頂いています。
今回の学習内容であるOffice Holiday Partyで疑問なのは、なぜ二次会を開いたリ、出たりすることが禁止なのかということです。
この点について疑問を呈したのですが、会社のprofessina function(仕事の行事)としては、梅村が主催者として二次会は開かないほうがよいという意見があり納得です。それでもなぜ「絶対に」だめなのでしょうか。
また、個人として二次会に「絶対に」出てはいけないという下りはまだ未解決です。アメリカにおいて二次会に出る危険性とはどのようなものでしょうか。絶対にというからにはそれなりの理由があるはずですが。。。

2. 英語に関するあれこれ
前回紹介したデイリーヨミウリでひろった表現、
assume power 就任する
ですが、Office Holiday Party (4) の assume と同じ使い方のようです。
ヘザーさんの解説にあったように、assume は take on oneself、つまり「責任を負う」という意味でビニエットでは使われています。
assume power は「権力を引き受ける」→「就任する」ということになります。
デイヨミからビジ英への「逆」かぶりです。
