英辞郎 on the WEB ユーザーミーティングに行ってきました。
ゲストはGoogleの及川さん。NHKプロフェッショナル仕事の流儀にも
出演された有名人。様々な英語Hacksを披露くださいました。
次に参加者によるイグナイトという５分間スピーチがありましたが、
なぜかIT畑の人ばかりでした。
皆さん英語を実践で使われている方でした。
結局、英語環境に置かれないと、英語は伸びないということなのかな、
と思いました。。
そうそう、英辞郎 on the WEB Proに、あいまい検索機能が追加されるそうです。

2. 英語に関するあれこれ
complete streetはwikipediaによると、米国においては1971年にオレゴン州で
"bike bill"が成立し、新しい道路には自転車と歩行者を考慮せよということに
なりました。
その効果として、安全、健康、経済的に向上するとあります。
今回のレッスンの健康面でいうと、
One study found that 43% of people with safe places to walk within 10 minutes
of home met recommended physical activity levels, while just 27% of those
without safe places to walk were active enough.
とあるように、家の近くに安全に歩く場所がある人は健康になるということです。
アメリカでは家の近所も歩けないほど車専用の道路しかないのでしょうか。

意味が第一の意味です。

のですが、テキストではそうなっておらず、「三分の一*にすぎません*」と、
barelyを形容詞のように訳しています。これを意訳というのでしょうか。

■そのほかの気になる表現
regular exerciseは有酸素運動の事で、私がジムで主にやっている筋トレは
含まれないのでしょうか？
leisure-time physical activityに、なぜleisure-timeをつける必要があるのでしょうか。
ガーシアは最初は、週２時間半の運動はそれほどたいしたことはない、と言って
おきながら、あとで、運動を日常生活に組み入れる事は難しい、と全く反対の事
を言っていることに気づきました。２番目のガーシアの台詞は別の人にしゃべらせた
ほうが良かったかもしれません。
