土曜日にビジ英の勉強会に行ってきました。

いろいろとためになること学べたので、
ここでshareしたいと思います。


Customer Service Tips (2)より。

supposedlyは「...といわれている」という訳ですが、
話し手は本当はそうは思っていない時に使うようです。

nuisanceの発音でiは発音されません。ヌーサンスです。
私が発音を間違えていました。

ジャックが予約していたのにテーブルの用意ができて
いなかったというところで私は、なんとサービスの
悪い店だ、と思っていたのですが、前の客がまだ帰らずに
テーブルが用意できなかったのではないかということでした。

杉田先生がsoliloquyの同意語でmonologueと解説されましたが、
soliloquyは心の声を観客に説明するものであり、
一方、monologueは本当に発声する「独り言」であり、
両者は異なります。


eatryのeryは製造所という接尾詞ですが、他にも
 ブリュワリー brewery
 ベーカリー bakery
 ブッチャリー butchery
があります。


Customer Service Tips (3)より。

make a point of は「必ず...する」と載っていますが、
コウビルドには「わざとらしくする」と載っています。
また、T.D.ミントンの本にも日本人が間違えやすい点として
make a point ofが指摘されているようです。

They shouldn't read them out as if they were declaiming
a soliloquy in a play.

referred to as diners.

If you say that something or someone is a winner, you mean
that they are popular and successful, or that they are likely
to be popular and successful. [INFORMAL]

If you declaim, you speak dramatically, as if you were
acting in a theatre. [WRITTEN]
