についても、無料のオンラインのサイトができており、
このことも(新聞社にとっての)痛手になっています。」
とありますが、この無料のオンラインのサイトとは、
craigslist
のことですね。
日本版もあり、上のリンクは東京版になります。
テキストのみのサイトで昔懐かしい印象です。
今読んでいる本「フリー」にもcraigslistのことが出てきます。
本書によると、2006年の収入は約4000万ドルだそうで、
その年の新聞社のclassified adsで減少した収入は3億ドルを
超えるそうです。
つまり、craigslist自身はそれほど儲かってはいないのです。
その差分はどこに行ったかというと、サイトのユーザである、
広告を出したい人と、仕事を求める人々です。
有料広告ではないため、より多くの広告が長い期間掲載され、
ユーザにとっては非常に良いものになるということです。
フリーは素晴らしいのですが、これはしょうがないのだ、
と本書では言っています。
フリーは重力のように抗えないものだ、と。
