That's all well and good, Hiroshi, but people who rely on
the Internet as their main information source have a weak
spot when it comes to determining whether or not that
information is true or accurate.

People haven't yet developed the critical skills needed
to sort the wheat from the chaff on the Web.

I get the feeling she wouldn't be caught dead reading one.

I'd like to think that Rebecca has at least a passing
interest in the real world, as opposed to just the fantasy
realm of anime.

I should point out that while the circulation of newspapers'
print editions is slipping, online newspaper reading is
on the upswing.

That's all well and good.
If you say that something is all well and good, you are
suggesting that it has faults or disadvantages, although
it may appear to be correct or reasonable.

ex) It's all well and good for him to say he's sorry for
dropping you, but has he told you why he did it?

sort the wheat from the chaff,
If you separate the wheat from the chaff or separate the grain
from the chaff, you decide which things or people in a
group are good or necessary, and which are not. You can
use 'sort' or 'sort out' instead of 'separate'.

ex) The reality is often blurred by an overdose of propaganda.
It is becoming more and more difficult to separate the wheat
from the chaff.

wouldn't be caught dead, (...
If you say that you wouldn't be seen dead or wouldn't be caught
dead in particular clothes, places, or situations, you are
emphasizing that you strongly dislike or disapprove of them.

ex) I wouldn't be seen dead in a black straw hat.

have a passing interest in, ...
A passing fashion, activity, or feeling lasts for only
a short period of time and is not worth taking very seriously.

ex) He had never taken more than a passing interest in the girl.

If something slips to a lower level or standard, it fails to
that level or standard.

ex) Shares slipped to 117p.

be on the upswing,
if it's any comfort,
