Hazardous Driving (2) 7/16 2009

I've heard too much about it to give up on it now.

We've got to keep working to eliminate what is still a far
too relaxed attitude to drunken driving in society at large.

Too many drivers think traffic ordinances are just guidelines,
instead of laws with very real and very serious penalties.

More sobriety checkpoints may be effective too.

Actually, drunken driving is part of a larger problem -
distracted driving.

give up on, ...
If you give up on someone or something, you stop trying to
do something that involves them, because you think you will
never succeed or understand them.

ex) So many women give up on men after pursuing them.

If a place or situation is relaxed, it is calm and peaceful.

ex) The atmosphere at lunch was relaxed.

An ordinance is an official rule or order. [FORMAL]

ex) ordinances that restrict building development.

Sobriety is the state of being sober rathan than drunk.

ex) the price of beer compelled me to maintain a certain
level of sobriety.

If you are distracted, you are not concentrating on
something because you are worried or are thinking about
something else.

ex) She seemed less like a poetess than a distarcted housewife.
