一週間ぶりでございます。仕事も山を超え、こうしてメルマガを
書けるようになりました。


さて、4月18日(土)には恒例「リスナーの集い」に今年も
参加しました。

特別ゲストであった、Google名誉会長の村上さんのお話から
いくつか印象に残ったことを拾ってみましょう。


「若い人で英語がしゃべれなくて10年後、20年後に仕事があるとは
思えない」

「英語を使うどのような機会があるかを想像し、そのために準備
をしなさい」

「想像できない人は、CNNやYouTubeのプレゼンのビデオを観なさい」

「それから英語の本を読みなさい。ノンフィクションがいい。
例えば、Thomas FriedmanのHot, Flat, and Crowded。
これは今年の3月に訳書「グリーン革命」が出たが、原著は半年前
にでている。この半年の差は大きい」

「日本語の本やテレビを見ている暇はない」

「リスニングが特に難しい。CNNのアンダーソンクーパーの速度が標準
になっている。このスピードが必要」

「皆さんはすでにtoo lateだが、まあ、がんばって」

for some time, I think it's fair to say these kinds of trends go in regular
cycles.

surprising, it is true or really happened.

You can say 'you've got to be kidding' or 'you must be kidding' to
someone if they have said something that you think is ridiulous or
completely untrue. [INFORMAL]

You use fair in expressions such as 'It would be fair to say' in order to
introduce a statement which you believe to be true and reasonable.
