今日は、本メルマガを作るために使っている辞書についてお話します。
基本は電子辞書で、SR-E10000というものです。
この機種はコウビルドが入っているのでお気に入りです。
コウビルドで見つからなかったら、オックスフォード(ODE)で調べます。
英和は補足的に使います。
これでもだめなら、E-DICの出番です。
E-DICはパソコンに入れて使う辞書です。
口語表現の解説が特に優れていて、例文も充実しています。
たいがいのアメリカ口語はここで見つかります。
E-DICはビジ英との相性が良いように思います。
E-DICでもだめな場合は英辞朗です。
英辞朗は書籍版は持っていないので、アルクのサイトで調べます。
気が向いたときには、NHKやさしいビジネス英語実用フレーズ辞典で
過去に同じ表現が出てきていないか探すこともあります。
ここまで調べて見つからない場合は、インターネットで検索する時
もありますが、メルマガへの採用をあきらめることも多いです。
特にE-DICはお勧めです。

Instead of saying that something 'has not yet happened',
you can say that it has yet to happen. People often use
this structure to indicate that they do not expect
something to happen.
ex) I have yet to meet a man I can trust.
