Amazon Primeビデオで、映画「復活の日」を見ました。草刈正雄が若い!
1980年の映画ですが、当時映画館で観ました。ラストシーンでオリビアハッセーが草刈に "You are right.(あなたの地震予知は正しかった)"と言っていたと、今日の今まで思っていたのですが、"You are alive.(生きていたのね)"だったことがわかりました。
角川映画ですが全編英語です。しかしゆっくりなので聞き取りやすかったです。
一流は、なぜシンプルな英単語で話すのか(柴田 真一 (著))を読みました。
NHK 入門ビジネス英語の講師でもある柴田先生は銀行員としてロンドン15年、ドイツ5年の海外勤務経験があります。
ノンネイティブが仕事現場で多くなっていく中、本書ではplain Englishの重要性を指摘し、85の表現と例文群、その解説から構成されています。
これらの表現を使いこなすために、ぜひ例文の暗記をしてみたいと思います。

pick up で、速度を増す、という意味で12月号に出てたので、そういう意味かと思いました。
★arsenal, 武器庫、強み、資源

arsenalは武器庫という意味ですがここでは強みという意味で使われているのですね。
★since time immemorial, 太古の昔から、大昔から

immemorialは、（記録にないほどの）昔からという意味です。
★urban sophisticate, 都会派の洗練された人
Urban sophisticates in big cities like London are now aware of its health benefit.
sophisticateは他動詞で、世慣れさせる、洗練させるという意味です。
