米国赴任50週目が終了。

こちらに来て以来、ゴルフを始めましたが、英語とゴルフは似ていると感じます。

一つには、どちらも様々なトレーニング法が提唱されていること、です。

各種テキスト、専門雑誌は書店にあふれていますし、ネットでも無料のものが利用可能です。YouTubeには英語の番組と同じく、ゴルフの番組も多くあり、レッスンプロが様々なコツを伝授してくれます。

(英語のYouTubeと言えば数年前にPodcastで好評だったeChatVancouverがYouTubeにアップされていました。一度聞いてみてください。)

ゴルフの指導法はそれはもう様々で、あらゆるコーチが足、腰、腕、体の動かし方のコツを解説しています。ドリルと呼ばれる練習法もたくさんありすぎて、どれを取り入れたらよいかわからなくなります。

これは英語の指導法にもいろいろあってどれを試せばいいのか悩むのに似ていますが、ゴルフのほうが指導法のバリエーションが広いようです。

ゴルフのスイングは一種類の動かし方しかないはずなのに、指導ポイントがたくさんあるとは不思議なことです。

この理由は自分の動きが自分で見えていないためでしょう。自分の動きをビデオで録画し指導を受けるとよいとも聞きます。 

英語においても自分の力を客観的にみることも大事かもしれません。

いずれにせよ、様々な手法の中から今の自分に必要なものを正しく選別する、ということが必要になってきます。

They say playgrounds for grown-ups stand a better chance than gyms of stemming the rise in obesity and related ailments.

That's good news for the gym averse among us.

Adult playgrounds are just the thing for people who dread the prospect of going to the gym.
