in that capacity, その資格[立場、役割]

 

I know you're a veterinarian by training and that you've traveled all over the world in that capacity.

 

capacityは資格、地位、役割という意味があります。

 

私の例文です。

 

I work for ABC company but I'm here in my individual capacity.

 

 

sniff out, ...を嗅ぎ分ける、...を嗅ぎつける

 

We're training a 2-year-old Labrador retriever to sniff out the scent emitted by people infected with the virus.

 

私の例文です。

 

The dogs sniffed out the drugs at the airport. They're sniffer dogs.

 

 

 

stoke fear of, ...ではないかという不安[懸念]をかきたてる[あおる]

 

The media has stoked fears of mass pet abandonment with reports about how shelters in some states are taking in more dogs compared to the same period of 2020.

 

stokeは「かまどの火を焚く」という意味もあります。

 

私の例文です。

 

The man stoked fear of ending of the radio program.

 

fall into a category, (...の)部類に入る、(...に)分類される

 

I fall into that category.

 

私の例文です。

 

English learners fall into three categories. First, students who are preparing for entrance examinations. Second, business persons who want to improve their skills. Lastly, manias like me.

 

 

fur baby, 毛皮のある子ども[赤ちゃん](犬や猫など、子供のように愛情をそそがれているペット)

 

While working from home, many of us have been in close proximity to both our human children and what some people call their fur babies.

hunker downは、でる順パス単(1)4訂版の2232で出ています。

 

(1)では、banter with,  ...と(罪のない)軽口をたたき合う

も難しめですが、でる順パス単(1)4訂版 369で出ています。

 

ビジ英と英検1級語彙の親和性です。

 

私の例文です。

 

I will be hunkered down the room and study English during this winter break.

(1)で出てくるおなじみyou guysですが、最近これに代わってy'allが世界的に使われ始めたという話があります。

It's unsettling, because we're not sure what might happen next.

They bear witness to our everyday trials and tribulations.

 

trials and tribulationsは「試練と苦難」、または「艱難辛苦」です。

a cog in a wheel, 歯車の歯、大企業などで小さな役割を果たしている人

 

私の例文です。

 

No one want to be a cog in a wheel.

 

 

come at the cost of, ...という犠牲が伴う、...を犠牲にする

 

That comes at the cost of less interaction and socializing with colleagues in person.
