★hold dear, いとおしく思う

 

It was a harsh wake-up call that showed that people and things you hold dear can be taken away just like that.

 

hold dearで成句のようです。

 

私の例文です。この場合dearは形容詞のようです。

 

I hold my daughter dear.

 

 

 

★roll into,　...に入っていく、...に転がり込む

 

I saw a report on TV about a cylindrical robot rolling into a treatment room to allow health-care workers to remotely check the temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation of patients hooked up to a ventilator.

 

ロボットのためタイヤで進むので、roll into なのかなと思いました。

 

私の例文です。

A robot rolled into the office and delivered a lunch box for me.

 

★have a handle on, ...を理解[把握]する

 

The break from their routines gave many people a chance to reevaluate what's important in their lives and change their plans so they'll have a better handle on what they want to do with their time.

 

私の例文です。

 

I have a handle on what vaccination give us.

 

★be stranded at home, 自宅に足止めされる

 

Many of us who habitually worked out - either at local facilities or at the corporate gym ere in this building - were suddenly stranded at home.

 

strandは、困らせるという意味のようです。

英英では、leave without the means to move from somewhere です。

 

私の例文です。

 

I was stranded the station without umbrellas.

ところで数か月前から口腔洗浄器を使い始めました。水流で行う歯の掃除ですね。

最近、歯のクリーニングに行ったら、しっかり磨けますね、歯石もないですよ、と褒められました。

 

水でやるやつを使っているのですよと言ったら、ああ、water pickですね、と。

 

以前はフロスを使っていましたが、water pickはフロスより効果があるようです。

 

アメリカ人は歯に気を使いますからビニエットのネタにいかがでしょう、先生。

★shake up, ...を大刷新する、...にゆさぶりをかける

 

They're shaking up the meat industry and are becoming quite a lucrative business.

 

私の例文です。

 

The discovery of life in Mars shook up the scientific world.

 

 

★flexitarian, フレキシタリアン、緩やかな[準]菜食主義

 

I think the main target market for these products is meat eater and "flexitarians" - the growing number of people who eat meat a mostly vegetarian diet but occasionally eat meat.

 

たまに肉や魚を食べる人ということでフレキシブルでいいですね。

肉や魚を食べる機会を皆が少しずつ減らせば、消費量が全体では大きく削減されますし、個人としても健康にもいいのかもしれません。休日に絶食する習慣の人もいますね。

 

私の例文です。

 

I eat meat at restaurant but not at home, yes, I'm flexitarian.

 

★whole food, 自然食品

 

Dietitians point out that plant-based burgers aren't made from whole food.

 

Whole Foods Marketという自然食品のスーパーがアメリカにありました。

テキサス州オースティンの第一号店に行ったことがあります。

量り売りが多かったような印象です。

数年前にAmazon.comに買収されました。

 

whole foodsでぐぐると、バーガーのパテがamazonで売っていました。

これこそNext-Generation Foodsです。日本でも簡単に変えるのですね。

★locustとgrasshopperは見分けが付きません。

こんなビデオがありましたが、locustは集団性があり、世界中で作物を食べつくす大迷惑な存在になっていました。

★methane-producing livestock, メタンを産出する家畜

 

Eating bugs instead of methane-producing livestock is a great way to ensure a source of quality nutrition while helping the environment.

 

牛のゲップに含まれるメタンが温暖化に貢献しているので、肉は気候変動にはマイナスなのですね。

 

オーストラリアでは牛にメタンを作らせないように添加物を与える取り組みがありました。
